About Me

Hi, I’m Dawn Scott

Professional Interior Designer | Colour Specialist | AI Educator | Neurodiversity Advocate

I’ve always been passionate about the transformative power of colour - how it can enhance wellbeing, improve functionality, and make spaces truly work for the people who use them. But for me, inclusive design is more than just a profession - it’s personal.

As a mother to an autistic daughter and someone who has witnessed the effects of dementia within my family, I’ve seen first-hand how the built environment can either support or hinder wellbeing. This personal experience has driven my dedication to designing spaces that are not just beautiful, but functional, accessible, and empowering for all.

With over 22 years of industry experience, I’ve worked on public and commercial spaces such as hospitals, schools, and care environments - helping to create spaces that are research-led, human-centred, and designed with purpose.

Why I Do What I Do

I believe that design should work for people, not the other way around. Every space we step into influences how we feel, think, and interact with the world - and for some, that impact is even more profound.

For an autistic child, too much sensory stimulation in a classroom can be overwhelming.

For a person with dementia, colour contrast can mean the difference between independence and confusion.
For anyone in a high-stress environment, a well-designed space can offer calm and clarity.

That’s why I’m committed to designing spaces that aren’t just visually appealing, but that genuinely enhance quality of life.

How My Journey Evolved

Over the years, my work has expanded beyond traditional interior design. I’ve developed a deep passion for education, mentoring, and technological innovation - particularly in how AI is changing the way we design.

I regularly speak at industry events and universities, sharing insights on colour psychology, neurodiversity, and AI-driven design. I also contribute to research, whitepapers, and discussions that explore the future of inclusive design.

In addition to my consultancy work, I’m also an industry guest speaker at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) and Falmouth University, where I mentor MA Interior Design students on colour, neurodiversity, and AI in interiors. Helping to shape the next generation of designers is something I’m incredibly passionate about.

Why Colour & AI?

For me, design isn’t just about aesthetics - it’s about making spaces work for people.

I believe that:

Colour isn’t just decorative - it’s functional, psychological, and deeply personal.
Inclusive design should be the standard, not an afterthought.
AI can empower designers, not replace them - helping us explore ideas in new and exciting ways.

By bridging colour, inclusivity, and technology, I hope to push the boundaries of what’s possible in interior design - creating spaces that support, uplift, and inspire.
